Carl Schurz Park is a small 15-acre gem of a park near my home. Judy and I went there earlier this week for a photo shoot. (We've been taking the same classes.) Today I went on the web site.
Carl Schurz is more than a park, I discovered, it is a focal point of community vision and collaboration. A Park Association (incorporated in 1974) of Upper East Side neighbors banded together to restore, maintain, enhance and protect this piece of open space that overlooks Roosevelt Island and borders the East River. They are going strong still.
Tuesday I continued taking "My Own Autumn" photos. This time, there were the usual colorful leaves but also the dog runs, the children's playground, vast open sky and one fastidious squirrel, attentive and careful, in every way, to leave not a single crumb from a carelessly cast-off muffin paper.
This gathering place, for activities planned and spontaneous, is a much-needed breathing space in the heart of our neighborhood. In this time when giving thanks is so much on our minds, I am indeed grateful.
thanks for teaching me about carl schutz park...and I love your picture...so golden and interesting....and how did you find the camus quote? so appropriate...you are a gifted writer and now photographer..add that to the list of your many wonderful gifts...thanks for letting me and your other friends be the beneficiaries of your gifts...
