In an effort to cope with winter blahs, some of my friends spend a month in Puerto Rico. My methods are closer to home. To get my taste of a tropical retreat, I ride the Metro North train out to the New York Botanical Garden. There, through April 11, visitors can luxuriate, as I did, in the multi-sensory pleasures of this year's orchid show, Cuba in Flower.
Over 700 varieties of orchids are showcased in this island-centered exhibit. The first picture shows what the visit sees on entry to the Haupt Conservatory. The second is what one sees at the end. Altogether, it is a stunning show--and it is warm, too!
